Second Language Proficiency Test
Français-English
Description
The Second Language Proficiency Test (SLPT) is a pedagogical resource designed for the Quebec college network. This computer-based, adaptive test assesses listening comprehension and reading comprehension levels in French or English for non-native speakers. It is then used to place this level on a standardized scale: the Scale of Proficiency Levels.
The test is composed of two categories of items: reading comprehension items and listening comprehension items. Each item measures a specific skill level indicator. In addition, five types of items (multiple choice, associations, etc.) are suggested to vary the tasks required. Sequencing responses, for example, are used to precisely assess students’ ability to establish the sequence of a list of events or ideas.
An array of information about the test and its use in the college system is available on the site.
