Three new products for the CCDMD catalogue!

September 18, 2014

Presenting three new additions to the CCDMD catalogue: a textbook that covers the basic chemistry concepts for students in the respiratory therapy techniques program, a website that uses simulations to help people learn political concepts, and a website update with videos demonstrating the first actions to take during cardiopulmonary resuscitation.

The Chemistry of Respiratory Therapy (Chimie pour l’inhalothérapie)

The Chimie pour l'inhalothérapie textbook, written by Sophie Maheu, a teacher in Rosemont’s chemistry department, covers the chemistry basics needed by students in the respiratory therapy techniques program. It is divided into four sections, each one beginning with a professional practice scenario. The chapters include lots of problem-solving resolution examples, as well as exercises and answers, and each chapter ends with a summary (concept review diagram and sometimes equations or procedures). The textbook includes a review of calculation rules, with significant numbers, a mediagraphy and a list of acronyms, initialisms and symbols.

Political Simulation

The Simulation politique website, designed by Mathieu Bélanger, a teacher at Cégep régional de Lanaudière in Terrebonne, provides political science teachers with a variety of pedagogical tools to help their students acquire the basic concepts of Canadian and Quebec politics.

The teaching scenarios describe different simulations that put the learners in an authentic learning situation. The simulations allow them to deepen their political science competencies, because the activities involve knowledge, skills and political attitudes. The online, asynchronous part of the project fosters a more informed and reflective debate and discussion among the students over a longer period of time.

Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation

The Réanimation cardiorespiratoire website, designed by Christian Shooner, from Collège Laflèche, presents 172 videos that demonstrate the first aid actions to take during cardiopulmonary resuscitation, with 172 technical sheets describing these actions, step by step. The new version of the site includes a pedagogical resource section offering assistance sheets and teaching activities. The site will soon also include a slide show manager that can be used to create short videos.

This website can be used for technical or pre-university programs, such as pre-hospital emergency care, nursing care techniques, policing techniques and early childhood education techniques. The videos and technical sheets are based on the 2010 standards defined by the Fondation des maladies du cœur du Québec (FMCQ). They are classified by three parameters: person carrying out the procedure, age of victim and type of emergency procedure.

Simulation politique and Réanimation cardiorespiratoire are adaptive websites, which means the interface adapts to different devices (computer, touch tablet, smartphone). They offer the user the optimal viewing experience to make reading and navigation easier.

Bravo to the authors and to all the production teams for these fantastic accomplishments!
